McCowan Makes Wooden Award Top 20 Cut

STARKVILLE – Teaira McCowan is one of 20 women's basketball players still in running for the John Wooden Award after the selection committee released their late season watch list on Monday night.
The senior leads No. 6/6 Mississippi State in scoring (16.9 ppg) and rebounding (13.7 rpg). She ranks sixth in the nation with 58 total blocks and fifth in field goal percentage (66.1 percent).
McCowan has already broken the MSU career records for rebounds (1,316) and double-doubles (57) this season and picked up four weekly conference honors. The Brenham, Texas, native has recorded a double-double in 18 of 22 games this season.
Among active players, she is second in the country in career rebounds, fourth in double-doubles, eighth in blocks, 21st in field goals made and 38th in total points.
The 15 finalists will be revealed ahead of the NCAA tournament. The Wooden Award winner will be announced at the College Basketball Awards on April 12.
The Bulldogs will host Tennessee in Humphrey Coliseum at 1 p.m. CT on Sunday, Feb. 10.
