STARKVILLE – The No. 9 Mississippi State baseball program will venture outside the friendly confines of Dudy Noble Field for the first time in 2019 to participate in the Frisco Classic. The Diamond Dawgs will take on Sam Houston State, No. 8 Texas Tech and Nebraska inside Dr Pepper Ballpark in Frisco, Texas.

Mississippi State owns a combined 4-3 record against its three opponents this weekend, going 1-0 versus Sam Houston State, 1-3 against Texas Tech and 2-0 against Nebraska. The Bulldogs have won their last meeting with each team, coming in 2018 vs. the Bearkats, 2017 against the Red Raiders and 1999 versus the Cornhuskers. In all, five of the seven meetings have come at a neutral site, including four in NCAA Regional play.

Series Notes
Sam Houston State
- Mississippi State and Sam Houston State will meet for the second time in program history to open the Frisco Classic.
- The two teams met for the initial time in 2018 at the Shriners College Classic at Minute Maid Park in Houston, a game that State won, 4-1.
- Mississippi State and Texas Tech have met four previous times on the diamond, with State owning a 1-3 record in those meetings.
- The first encounter came in the 2004 NCAA Atlanta Regional, where Texas Tech took both meetings to knock MSU out of the tournament.
- The Red Raiders then traveled to Starkville to open the 2017 season as a part of a three-team event at Dudy Noble Field. After dropping the season opener, MSU earned an 8-5 win over TTU in the weekend finale.
- Mississippi State and Nebraska met twice in the 1999 NCAA Columbus Regional in Columbus, Ohio, with MSU wining both games.
- The Diamond Dawgs won the opener, 18-14, to account for the third-highest scoring NCAA Regional game in program history.
- MSU scored 25 runs vs. Tennessee Tech in the 1997 NCAA Mideast Regional and plated 19 runs vs. Michigan at the NCAA South I Regional in 1991. Both games were played in Starkville, Mississippi.
