White Leads After Day 1 of Intrasquad Meet

STARKVILLE – White carries a four-point lead into Day Two of Mississippi State track and field's preseason intrasquad meet after racking up 45 points on Friday.
Gray follows in second place with 41 points, while Maroon enters competition on Saturday trailing by 18 points.
"Everybody competed well," head coach Chris Woods said. "I'm excited to see what happens on Saturday. It's a close race for the championship."
In the high jump, White leapt out to a two-point lead in the first events of the day and would never trail. Freshman Kobe Clouthier also clinched the men's high jump title. The squad later compiled 14 points in weight throw, ignited by two first-place finishes from Cade Finley and Tiffaney Johnson.
Gray's Jesse Henderson led on the men's side with 11 points combined across high jump, long jump and pole vault, while Shayla Broughton tallied 11 points in high jump, long jump and shot put. Gray athletes won five events.
Maroon amassed 16 of their 27 points in the throws, fueled by by Jeremiah Pierce's first-place heave in the shot put and runner-up performance in the weight throw. Chardae Tryon placed second in the shot.
The meet is using a 5-3-2-1 scoring format, with the relays being scored 5-3-1. Teams may not score more than twice in a single event. For example, if Maroon took first, second and third, the fourth-place athlete would be bumped up to third for scoring purposes and collect two points.
Saturday features track events, with the 2000m run kicking off the day at 1:00 p.m. CT. The final gun will fire at 3 p.m. for a mixed 4x400m with two men and two women each running a leg for each team.
