Know Your Bulldog: Hunter Logan
November 18, 2019 | Men's Golf
By McRae Clay, Student Assistant/Communications
Dependable. Different. Perfectionist. Loyal. All words used to describe Mississippi State men's golfer Hunter Logan.
Â
Logan has been playing golf since he was eight years old, but the way he was introduced to the game is similar to his personality - unique.
Â
"I was kind of losing interest in baseball," Logan said. "I saw a commercial with Tiger Woods on it, so I decided to give golf a try. I was ready for something new."
Â
He competed in his first event two years later. After finishing second, he learned that he would have a future in the game. Golf provided a challenge for the Steens, Mississippi, native, and he was hooked.
Â
"Golf is something you can never be perfect at, never. Every day you just try to get as close as you can, but there is always something you can improve on."
Â
Logan has a very easy-going, carefree personality. In his free time, he enjoys hanging out with his teammates. After moving to Starkville, they persuaded him to download social media. Instagram and Twitter were never a priority because Logan rarely puts much thought into what other people think of him. Before every round, he always ends up with a random song stuck in his head. It changes round to round, but it keeps his attitude casual.
Â
"I'll just be walking down the fairway singing my song," Logan said. "It helps me keep my mind off of only golf."
Â
When he's not on the golf course or goofing off with his teammates, Logan prides himself on keeping his grades up in the classroom. The freshman is majoring in accounting and has always been financially savvy. In the eighth grade, he started saving for his first big purchase. He started doing jobs around the house and saving money.
"My grandad was going to give me his truck, but I didn't like it," Logan said. "So my parents told me if I was going to get another car, I was going to have to work for it myself. I bought and sold stuff as well. My grandad owned a pawn shop. He would teach me all his tricks."
Â
Just as his grandad taught him tricks on how to trade and barter, golf has taught Logan a lot about himself.
Â
"If you just have a positive mindset and keep going, most of the time the outcome will be good."
Â
With one semester of his collegiate golf career in the books, Logan is just trying to soak it all in.
Â
"Every time we go somewhere, I get to check off a state," Logan said. "Before I came here I had only been to Tennessee, Alabama, New York and Florida."
Â
So far this season, Logan has checked off Arkansas, Texas and California. He has hopes to visit Arizona and Georgia in the spring.
