Mississippi State Cross Country Set For Louisville Classic

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After enjoying a few weekends off, the Mississippi State cross country team travels to Louisville, Kentucky, to run in the Louisville Classic on Saturday.
The meet will be held at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park with the men's 8K race starting at 9:30 a.m. ET followed by the women's 5K at 10:15 a.m. ET.
"This marks the near halfway point in the season for the girls, and the opening meet for the men," distance coach Patrick McGregor said. "I just want to see both groups run aggressive and not timid. This will be a big test for the girls now that they have a couple races under their belt."
Both races feature 40 teams each, highlighted by Lipscomb, Louisville, Memphis, and two SEC foes in Kentucky and Vanderbilt.
The women saw success in their season opener as they took home the UNA Invitational Title and followed with a 14th-place performance at the Commodore Classic. The men will make their first appearance of the 2019 season.
Two Bulldogs – Ashley Melcherts and redshirt freshman Clayton Fulgham – will make their debuts in Maroon and White.
