STARKVILLE – Four members of the Mississippi State men's tennis squad will continue their fall campaign this weekend as the Bulldogs represent the Maroon and White at SMU's inaugural Ralston/Neufeld Challenge in Dallas.
State will be one of 10 teams competing in the three-day event held at the SMU Tennis Complex. Arkansas, Baylor, Princeton, Rice, SMU, Texas Tech, Tyler JC, UT Arlington and Wichita State will also field players in the event. Matches will be played at Turpin Stadium (Indoor) and Brookshire Stadium (Outdoor). MSU's four participants in the event will be Isaac Becroft, Florian Broska, Nicolas Ocana and Davide Tortora.
The tournament will feature a doubles bracket without consolation and three 16-player brackets in singles with each bracket including consolation play. The three champions of each singles main draw and consolation bracket, along with two at-large berths, will then face off in the "playoffs", which will decide the overall singles champion for the weekend.
Play will begin each day with doubles at 9 a.m. CT on Friday and Saturday and then 8:00 a.m. Sunday. Singles will follow all three days starting at 10:30 a.m. Friday, 10:00 a.m. Saturday, 9:00 a.m. Sunday, with playoff matches starting at 12:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Live scores will be posted by SMU on Twitter.
This year will mark the first edition of the Ralston/Neufeld Coaches Challenge, which is named for the last two coaches of SMU Men's Tennis - Dennis Ralston, who guided the Mustangs to four NCAA Final Fours, and Carl Neufeld, who won 401 matches at the helm.
