Gilliam Leads the Bulldogs in Second Round in Bahamas

PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas – Following the second round of play, the Bulldogs sit tied for eighth in the White Sands Invitational at the Paradise Island Golf Course. Head coach Ginger Brown-Lemm's squad shot a score of 293 to make them 11-over for the event.
Freshman Ashley Gilliam led the team, placing her tied for 5th in this highly-ranked event. She had two birdies and sixteen pars to finish the day at 2-under 70, making it her eighth-round of par or better out of the 13 rounds played her first semester.
Tied for 44th, senior Clara Moyano shot 5-over par 77 for the day. Freshman Abbey Daniel was 3-over par 75 for the second round, while junior Blair Stockett rounded out the Bulldogs with a score of 78.
Climbing the leaderboard by 20 spots, junior Aubree Jones bounced back on the second day, postings a 1-under score of 71 today. Jones had two birdies, one bogey and fifteen pars, giving her a very consistent round.
"It was a much better day for me out there," said Jones. "I didn't feel like I was grinding as hard. I just tried to stay patient through the tough round yesterday and bounce back. Golf is a tough sport, and it will knock you off your feet really quick. It was a great feeling to bounce back like I did today."
Sophomore Lauren Miller, playing the individual position, stayed consistent and shot her second score of 75 for the invitational. She sits tied for 55th going into the final round.
The Mississippi State women's golf team will take the course for last time this fall on Wednesday to compete in the final round of the White Sands Invitational.
