ATLANTA - The Mississippi State men's tennis team once again had a solid day of match play Sunday as the Bulldogs went 7-4 in singles action. Freshmen Davide Tortora and Isaac Becroft went undefeated, earning themselves a spot in the title matches of their respective draws.

In the White Draw, the top-seeded Tortora met Tennessee's Pat Harper in a thrilling three-set match, downing the Volunteer 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the quarterfinals to open the day. The Bulldog rookie then battled South Carolina's Beau Pelletier in his semifinal match, cruising over the Gamecock comfortably 6-3, 6-2. Tortora, now on an impressive six-match win streak, will face Tennessee's Giles Hussey in the title match of that draw Monday.

In the White Draw consolation bracket Sunday, sophomore Gregor Ramskogler met South Carolina's Phillip Jordan in a three-setter as well, prevailing over the Gamecock 1-6, 6-1, 1-0(8). Ramskogler then took on Vanderbilt's Panu Virtanen, dropping a 7-5, 6-1 decision.

Representing the Bulldogs in the Navy bracket were Becroft and Stedman Strickland. The No. 2 seed Becroft faced Sam Dromsky of Georgia in his quarterfinal match and notched an impressive 6-0, 6-2 triumph. Becroft then battled Tennessee's Jordan Chrysostom, ousting the Volunteer 6-1, 6-2. Becroft will play Auburn's Diego Chavarria Monday in the Navy title match.

Strickland received a bye in his first-round White draw consolation match and then met Vanderbilt's Adam Sraberg in the semis, but fell there 7-5, 6-1 to Adam Sraberg of Vanderbilt.

Starting the day off for the Maroon and White was junior Florian Broska who looked to continue his solid showing from yesterday in the Olde Gold Draw with fellow Bulldog Nicolas Ocana. Broska met Clemson's Gabriel Diez Freire, but dropped the quarterfinal outing 6-1, 6-1. Rain then entered the area and forced the day's remaining matches to be taken indoors. Broska regrouped to play Vanderbilt's Christiaan Worst in the consolation bracket, and cruised to a comfortable 6-1, 6-4 victory.

Ocana met Vanderbilt's Macsen Sisam in his quarterfinal match, dropping a tight three-setter 6-2, 5-7, 6-3. Ocana then met Miami's Benjamin Hannestad and breezed to a tough 7-5, 6-4 consolation win.

Play resumes Monday morning.
