State Ranked Third in Men’s 800m #EventSquad Rankings

STARKVILLE – A pair of top-5 finishes in the men's 800m at the Razorback Invitational on Saturday led the way for Mississippi State track and field in the USTFCCCA's first #EventSquad Rankings of the year.
MSU's men rank third in the 800m rankings, which determine the top school in each event based on their four best athletes in that event, with an average mark of 1:49.80. Currently, a trio of Bulldogs rank in the top 25 nationally in the event, led by sophomore Marco Arop, who won the 800m in Arkansas with a mark of 1:47.63. His time currently ranks third in the SEC and seventh in the nation.
Dejon Devroe is tied for 16th in the nation (No. 5 in the SEC), while Daniel Nixon's mark of 1:49.92 set at the Vanderbilt Invitational (1/19), ranks 24th in the country. Kenya Small rounds out MSU's top four 800m runners at 1:52.20, also set at Vanderbilt.
State ranks 13th in the men's 200m, with an average time of 21.50 led by Terryon Conwell, who finished second in the event at the Razorback Invitational with a mark of 21.13. Karson Kowalchuk (21.36), Okheme Moore (21.44) and Rasheed Tatham (22.09) also contributed to the Bulldogs' No. 13 ranking.
In the men's 5000m, the Bulldogs rank 20th with an average of 15:08.63. Chandler Underwood leads the pack with a season-mark of 14:50.48, followed by Luke Zacharias (14:57.11), JT Mackay (15:15.63) and Zach Weaver (15:31.31).
Kowalchuk leads the No. 22 men's 60m squad with a mark of 6.79 set at the Razorback Invitational. Moore (6.82), Cameron Crump (6.86) and Lawrence Crawford (6.93) round out the Bulldogs' top 4 60m sprinters.
Next Up For MSU …
MSU will be back in action Feb. 8-9 in a split meet. Some of State's athletes will return to Nashville for the Music City Challenge, while others will head to Clemson, South Carolina, for the Tiger Paw Invitational.
