Bulldogs Host South Carolina on ESPN Thursday

STARKVILLE – Two Associate Press Top 15 teams will meet in women's basketball action on Thursday night in Humphrey Coliseum. No. 7 Mississippi State will host No. 15 South Carolina at 6 p.m. CT on the ESPN with Beth Mowins, Deb Antonelli and Brooke Weisbrod on the call.

The Bulldogs and the Gamecocks are the last remaining teams to be undefeated in SEC play. South Carolina leads the nation in blocks per game (7.1), and MSU is fifth in the category (6.8). The two teams have met in the SEC Tournament Championship in each of the last three years.
State is coming off a 26-point win at Auburn that saw Teaira McCowan record the 53rd double-double of her career. McCowan was named SEC Player of the Week after averaging 20.0 points and 15.5 rebounds against the Tigers and Georgia.
McCowan leads the league in blocks (2.7 bpg), double-doubles (14), field goal percentage (67.6 percent) and rebounding (13.3 rpg). Jazzmun Holmes leads the nation in assist/turnover ratio (4.1).
MSU will be off this weekend, but returns to the floor on Thursday, Jan. 24 at Florida. Tipoff from Gainesville is set for 6 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.

- The Bulldogs set a new school record with their sixth 100-point game of the year when they defeated Louisiana, 104-36. The SEC record is 10 games set by Alabama in the 1991-92 season.
- Seniors Jazzmun Holmes and Teaira McCowan have won 115-career games, tied for the 3rd-most in the nation since 2015-16. Their 87 wins since 2016-17 lead the nation in that span.

- South Carolina joines MSU as the only remaining SEC teams to be undefeated in conference play. The Gamecocks are coming off a 76-53 win at LSU to improve to a 12-4 (4-0 SEC) record.
- The Gamecocks and Bulldogs have met in the SEC Tournament Championship game in each of the past three seasons.

BULLDOGS EARN SEC POW HONORS
- MSU has earned five SEC Player of the Week awards this season after McCowan earned the honor this week. She averaged 20.0 points and 15.5 rebounds in games against Georgia and Auburn. It was her 7th career Player of the Week honor, the most among current league players. She was also named SEC Freshman of the Week in the 2015-16 season, giving her and MSU record 8 total conference weekly honors in her Bulldog career.
- Jordan Danberry shared an honor with Georgia's Gabby Connally in Week 8. Danberry averaged 21.5 points and 6.0 rebounds in two games including a career-best 21 points and 9 rebounds at Arkansas.
- McCowan earned her second of the year on Dec. 4 after breaking State's career rebounds record (1,109). Howard earned the honor for Week 2 after averaging 19.5 ppg and 10.5 rpg in wins against Lamar and Coppin State. She claimed the year's first honor after averaging 18.0 points, 14.5 rebounds and 5.5 blocks in opening-week wins against SE Missouri and Virginia.
BIG T MAKING BUCKETS
- McCowan holds the MSU record with 53 career double-doubles and is 6th in the SEC in scoring this season at 16.8 ppg, but she is making shots at a 67.6% clip that tops the league and is 4th in the nation this season.
- McCowan has scored double figures in 19 of her last 20 games going back to last season. In 8 of those games she has scored 20+ points.
- Against Furman, McCowan was 11-for-11 from the field, the first time a Bulldog has gone perfect from the field when attempting 10-plus attempts.
- McCowan had the 2nd-best field goal percentage in school history a year ago (60.1%), and her 58.7% career tally is tops in Bulldog annals.
- McCowan has passed LaCharlotte Smith for 6th in MSU's career scoring records with 1,566 points. That total is 3rd among active SEC players.
