
Monday Night Matchup Awaits Schaefer's Squad

STARKVILLE – Vic Schaefer's seventh-ranked women's basketball team will travel to Auburn for a Monday night matchup this week. Mississippi State and Auburn will tip off at 6 p.m. CT on the SEC Network with Brenda VanLengen and Andraya Carer on the call.

MSU is one of three remaining SEC teams that are undefeated in conference play. The Bulldogs are among the top five in the league in 15 statistical categories and lead the SEC in eight of those. MSU's scoring offense (91.4 ppg) is second in the nation and its scoring margin (+35.9) leads the country.
Individually, Teaira McCowan leads the conference in field goal percentage (66.3 percent), rebounding (13.5 rpg), blocks (2.6 bpg), double-doubles (13) and offensive rebounds (6 rpg). Jazzmun Holmes leads the league and is second in the country with a 4.20 assist/turnover ratio.
In State's last game, McCowan passed Sharon Thompson (1995-98, 1,526 pts) and LaCharlotte Smith (1993-96, 1,533 pts) to move into sixth place on MSU's scoring leaderboard. The Brenham, Texas, native has now collected 1,544 points and is 133 shy of Jennifer Fambrough (1999-2002, 1,677 pts) for fifth all-time.
The Tigers lead the SEC and are sixth in the country in steals (12.6 spg) and boast the fifth-highest turnover margin (+7.75) in Division I.
