STARKVILLE – Mississippi State officially opened the 2018-19 women's basketball season with a spirited, hard-nosed practice Thursday evening in Humphrey Coliseum.
The three-hour workout saw the reigning Southeastern Conference champions put in a stellar work ethic on both ends of the court.
Naismith National Coach of the Year Vic Schaefer put his squad through a series of drills that focused on offense, defense and rebounding, with seniors Jazzmun Holmes, Jordan Danberry, Teaira McCowan and Anriel Howard leading the way.
"They're a good looking group," Schaefer said about his seventh MSU edition. "They have a lot of size, athleticism and quickness. They're hard-working kids and I really enjoy them. I really like our four seniors, and we will go as far as they take us. It's a really talented group overall."
After opening practice with some offensive skill work, State transitioned into "Bulldog," the team's 5-on-5 fast-paced scrimmage situation.
MSU then wrapped the workout with defensive work that included full-court defending, rebounding and blocking out drills.
Mississippi State hosts defending NCAA Division II national champion Central Missouri in a Nov. 2 exhibition before officially opening the campaign at home on Nov. 6 against Southeast Missouri.
Reserved lower level season tickets are sold out, but general admission upper level season tickets can still be purchased online at www.hailstate.com/ticketsor by calling 1-888-GO-DAWGS.
