STARKVILLE – Mississippi State brings conference play home to Starkville this week, hosting No. 13/6 South Carolina on Thursday night at 7 p.m. CT. The match will air on SEC Network+.

The Bulldogs are looking to rebound from a tough loss at No. 9/15 Auburn last week in their SEC opener. Despite dropping that game, State landed at the No. 2 spot in the first RPI (Rating Percentage Index) rankings released by the NCAA on Monday.

"South Carolina is an elite team in our conference and in the country," head coach Tom Anagnost said. "They are a final four team that is extremely well-coached and disciplined."

The Gamecocks enter the match riding a 24-match SEC unbeaten streak dating back to the 2015 season. They have won each of the last five meetings between the teams. State last won a match in the series on Oct. 16, 2005, when the Bulldogs claimed a 2-1 victory in Starkville.

Last season, MSU took an early lead in the fourth minute before the Gamecocks tied the match. It looked as though the streak would end when the Bulldogs pulled ahead again in the 81st minute, but a late goal followed by an overtime tally gave the defending SEC champions the win.

MSU's defense is tied for third in the conference in shots allowed per game (7.8), and its six shutouts this season are tied for fifth in the nation.

Fans are encouraged to help the Bulldogs break the program attendance record on Thursday night. The team will give away free pizza and t-shirts along with double Hail State Rewards points (400). Chick-fil-A Starkville will provide free cookies. At halftime, one person will be chosen for a chance to win $10,000 by making a shot into the upper corner of the goal.
