STARKVILLE – Fall has officially arrived for Mississippi State's Nuno Borges.
The reigning two-time Southeastern Conference Player of the Year opens up fall competition on Saturday in Columbus, Ohio, at the ATP Challenger held on the campus of The Ohio State University. The two-time All-American Borges will need to advance through the 32-player qualifying draw in order to reach the tournament's main draw next week.
Borges' first test will be a tough one against Belgian Joris De Loore, who is the seventh-seeded player in the qualifying draw and holds an ATP ranking of 437. All matches in the tournament will be played indoors at OSU's Varsity Tennis Center.
The Columbus Challenger is part of the ATP Challenger Tour—the level between ITF Futures and ATP World Tour. Players from all over the world, including several current and former top collegiate players and some of the top doubles players will play in the tournament.
The MSU senior Borges looks to continue the success he saw in the summer, where he won two doubles titles and a singles crown in ITF Futures play en route to earning his highest ATP rankings in both singles and doubles—504 in singles and 725 in doubles. So far in 2018, Borges holds a sparkling 19-4 record in singles play and a 13-3 mark in doubles in ITF play.

The rest of the Bulldogs will open up their fall campaigns in a pair of locations—the UVA Masters in Charlottesville, Virginia, and the South Carolina Invitational in Columbia, South Carolina. Both tournaments run from Sept. 21-23.
