STARKVILLE – After his team finished fifth in the Southeastern Conference in 2017, Mississippi State cross country head coach Houston Franks is excited to unveil the Bulldogs' 2018 schedule.
Four regular-season meets set the stage for the postseason campaign for the Maroon and White.
"We're really looking forward to this upcoming season," Franks said. "My hope is that we to continue improvement from last season and build off that success. We have some returnees who will be key leaders and there are some newcomers who I feel will represent us well both on and off the course."
State will open up the 2018 meet calendar with the Memphis Twilight Classic on Sept. 1.
On Sept. 15, MSU will then trek across the Mississippi-Alabama border to Montevallo, where it looks to repeat as Falcon Classic champion. Last season, State's men and women both claimed the top spot in the outing.
Then, the Bulldogs travel up to Louisville, Kentucky, to run in the Louisville Classic hosted by the University of Louisville on Sept. 29.
MSU opens up the month of October in College Station, Texas, at the Arturo Barrios Invitational on Oct. 13, hosted by fellow SEC member Texas A&M.
About two weeks later, the Bulldogs look to improve on last year's impressive performance at the conference championship meet. This year's SEC Championships will be hosted by Auburn on Oct. 26. Last season, State finished fifth at SECs.
On Nov. 9, MSU will then take on the best in its region at the NCAA South Regional meet in Tallahassee, Florida, with the hopes of advancing to the 2018 NCAA Cross Country Championships in Madison, Wisconsin on Nov. 17.
