July 24, 2018 | Men's Tennis, Women's Tennis
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Proving yet again Mississippi State's commitment to academics, the MSU men's and women's tennis programs earned team and individual honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for the 2017-2018 season, the ITA announced on Tuesday.
Both squads earned ITA All-Academic Team honors by meeting the required 3.20 cumulative grade-point average, while several Bulldog players scored the required 3.50 GPA for the 2017-2018 academic year to earn individual honors from the ITA.
The Matt Roberts-led men's squad posted an impressive 3.76 cumulative GPA for the 2017-2018 academic year, as the program earned its 10th-straight and 17th overall ITA All-Academic Team honor in school history. On the court, the Bulldogs finished ranked fifth nationally after a run to the SEC Championship title and the program's first NCAA quarterfinal appearance since 1998.
Daryl Greenan's women's team recorded a remarkable 3.71 team GPA in 2017-2018 on its way to earning the ITA team laurel for the ninth-consecutive season and 19th time overall. State's ladies captured the No. 29 final national ranking this spring while making a program-record fourth-straight NCAA appearance.
Individually, both teams had multiple players named ITA Scholar-Athletes.
