Women’s Tennis Recognized By NCAA For Outstanding APR Once Again
May 17, 2018 | Women's Tennis
STARKVILLE, Miss. – After making its fourth-straight NCAA appearance this season, the Mississippi State women's tennis team has been recognized by the association for achieving a multi-year Academic Progress Rate in the top 10 percent of teams around the nation.
This is the second straight season Bulldog women's tennis has received the APR Public Recognition Award.
"This is a great achievement for our team and program," head coach Daryl Greenan said. "We strive to develop the best student-athletes in the country, with success both on the court and in the classroom. We place a high priority on academics here at MSU and I'm proud that we not only met that standard, but also raised the bar with this recognition for the second year in a row."
The recognition is the seventh for a Mississippi State program. Softball earned the honor twice in 2009 and 2010, women's golf twice in 2005 and 2014 and men's tennis in 2013.
"Our women's tennis program continues to set a standard in the classroom," Cohen said. "I am exceptionally proud of Daryl and his team for not only this honor but reaching NCAA postseason yet again."
Each year, the NCAA honors selected Division I sports teams by publicly recognizing their latest multiyear NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR). This announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports. Specifically, these teams posted multiyear APRs in the top 10 percent of all squads in each sport.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance
