MSU Turns Its Attention To Final Regular Season Event
April 08, 2018 | Women's Golf
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State women's golf team closes the regular season with a trip to a familiar course in Oklahoma.
The Bulldogs' final tune up before the SEC Championship comes Monday as Ginger Brown-Lemm's squad heads to Tulsa to compete in the Dale McNamara Invitational on the same Tulsa Country Club course it conquered to reach its last NCAA Championship.
The University of Tulsa-hosted event, which includes two rounds Monday and a final 18 holes Tuesday, is slated for shotgun starts at the host site NCAA Women's Golf Championship in 1999 and 2014.
The event, named for legendary Tulsa women's golf coach Dale McNamara, features 13 teams.
Fellow SEC member Texas A&M joins MSU in a stout field that includes Cincinnati, Florida Gulf Coast, Fresno State, Missouri State, Oklahoma State, Oral Roberts, South Florida, Texas State, Texas Tech, Wichita State and Tulsa.
Brown-Lemm's squad will be full of youth once again, as junior Katie Holt heads up the lineup. Aubree Jones, Athena Yang, Teri Doss and Blair Stockett round out the five.
"With Tulsa being our last event of the regular season, it gives us a chance to finish strong and have momentum headed into the SEC Championship," Doss said. "The course we are playing is a really nice course. It was host to the national championship a few years ago, so I suspect it will be a really good experience. We all feel really good going into the event, and we are ready to get out there and make a run at victory."
In its last trip to the Tulsa Country Club, State finished 6th overall at the NCAA Championship led by a fourth-place finish by former All-American Ally McDonald, who finished 4th.
