GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Mississippi State's track and field program has arrived in Florida for the 2018 Pepsi Florida Relays, the first truly national meet of its young outdoor season.
One hundred schools have athletes entered in the event, including eight ranked teams on both the men's and women's sides of the meet.
Competition begins on Thursday, with Bulldogs on the track at 1 p.m. CT. The men's javelin will be MSU's only field event on the first day.
"We laid a good foundation last weekend, but we know we have faster times ahead of us," head coach Steve Dudley said. "This week puts us up against some of the best athletes in the country, and it should be a good group for us to measure ourselves against."
The women's discus will lead off Friday at 11 a.m. followed by sprints beginning at 11:15 a.m. SEC Network+ will stream the Relays from 11:15-11:59 a.m. before picking coverage back up from 12:25-3:10 p.m.
Saturday will feature the majority of the relay events, with the women's shuttle hurdle relay opening competition at 11 a.m. SEC Network+ will again stream competition in multiple windows. Coverage begins at 1:40 p.m. and continues through 2:29 p.m. Streaming picks back up from 3:15-4:59 p.m., and the final window of the weekend covers 5:40-6:35 p.m.
MSU's 14th-ranked men's program will compete against No. 4 Florida, No. 9 Nebraska, No. 12 Virginia Tech, No. 13 South Carolina, No. 16 Penn State and No. 22 Kentucky. The Bulldog women meet No. 8 Florida, No. 12 Kentucky, No. 13 Purdue, No. 16 Nebraska, No. 19 Florida State, No. 20 Virginia Tech and No. 24 Tennessee.
In addition to the Gators, Wildcats, Gamecocks and Volunteers, Vanderbilt rounds out the Southeastern Conference teams in attendance.
