AUBURN, Ala. – AUBURN, Ala. – A young Mississippi State women's golf team gained valuable experience in challenging conditions as it wrapped play at the Evans Derby Experience in Auburn, Ala., on Tuesday.
On a challenging Auburn University Club course, MSU shot a 911 over the three days to finish in 11th place.
Junior Katie Holt led the youthful Bulldogs in the final round, notching a 3-over 75 to tie teammate Ela Grimwood for 44th position. After opeing play with a 74 and 73, Grimwood found the going tough Tuesday as she fired a 78 for her final round.
"Auburn University Club was a great venue for the week," Holt said. "It is a course that challenges you off the tee, and I definitely got more comfortable playing the course with each round. I scrambled well today and gave myself a lot of good looks at birdie, but I was unable to get any to drop. I'm looking forward to finishing out our last regular season tournament strong as a team before we fight hard at the SEC Championship. Hail State!"
Playing as an individual, Blaise Carabello turned in a 76 to join her teammates in 44th at 9-over.
Clara Moyano also carded a final-round 76 to wrap the three-day event tied for 56th at 14-over-par.
Freshman Aubree Jones bounced back from a tough second round and shot a 78 to finish tied for 69th. Athena Yang capped the tournament in a tie for 67th position after posting a final-round 81.
Kendall Wisenbaker carded an 82 to finish tied for 69th.
SEC foe No.-3 ranked Arkansas took medalist honors in the event.
Mississippi State wraps the regular season April 9-10 in Tulsa. Okla., for the Dale McNamara Invitational.
