Dogs, Tide meet for the second time on Tuesday at Humphrey Coliseum.
Sizzling Bulldogs Look To Continue Winning Streak
February 04, 2018 | Men's Basketball
STARKVILLE, Miss. – It's been a decade since Mississippi State last won four SEC games in a row, but that can all change Tuesday when border rival Alabama visits Humphrey Coliseum.
Tip is set for 6 p.m. CT, with the game televised on the SEC Network. Roy Philpott and Brooke Weisbrod will handle the broadcast, while Neil Price and Richard Williams will have the call on the MSU radio network.
A win would mark MSU's first four-game winning streak in league play since 2008 and avenge an earlier 68-62 setback to the Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa back in January. It's also a Black Out game, and all fans are encouraged to wear black.
LAST TIME OUT
The Bulldogs were impressive in their 72-57 win against Georgia. Lamar Peters scored a game-high 20 points, while Quinndary Weatherspoon added 14.
Alabama turned back No. 23 Florida in Gainesville, 68-50. Collin Sexton led the Tide with 17 points.
RECORDS
Mississippi State, 17-6, 5-5; Alabama, 17-6, 604.
THE SERIES
Alabama leads, 124-74.
COACHES
Ben Howland enters his third year at MSU and 22nd overall. As head coach in four different stops, he is 448-245 with a 47-39 mark with the Bulldogs.
Avery Johnson is in his third year at Alabama and is 52-38.
QUOTABLE
"He is a really good player and their leading scorer. He is incredibly athletic and shoots the ball well from three. He is a phenomenal athlete and makes them a better team." — MSU coach Ben Howland on Alabama's Collin Sexton.
"He is playing well and had a great week so let's keep it up. He has had a good year, it hasn't just been last week. He is playing with confidence and toughness. He doesn't get this award unless we are winning. They don't give this award to players on teams who aren't winning games. Bottom line is it's the whole team, his teammates, he is a good as a teammate as we have. His competitiveness, toughness, playing to win at all times is all he cares about. That embodiment is what is so thrilling. He is impacting three good wins in a row with his team and teammates." — MSU coach Ben Howland on Nick Weatherspoon being named SEC Player of the Week.
