State Women’s Tennis Hosts No. 13 South Carolina Thursday To Open SEC Play

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Looking to extend a six-match winning streak, Mississippi State's women's tennis team (8-2) hosts 13th-ranked South Carolina (8-3) Thursday afternoon to begin 2018 Southeastern Conference action. The match is slated for 3 p.m. CT at MSU's A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre. Admission is free to all MSU home matches.
"We are all excited to begin SEC play," head coach Daryl Greenan said. "Every team in the league is strong so every win we get will be important. We expect a tough battle every time we step on the court."
Last Time Out for MSU…
In their last showing, State battled a tough Memphis team for a 5-2 triumph. MSU's tandem of Madison Harrison and Khrystyna Vozniak, along with the duo of Magda Adaloglou and Janina Braun, picked up doubles wins against Memphis.
In singles, Anastasia Rentouli and Harrison posted straight-set victories to extend four- and five-match winning streaks, respectively. Clinching her first match of the season, State's Sara Lizariturry won in three sets at the No. 5 position. Adaloglou was also able to pick up a tough singles win after the clinch.
About South Carolina…
South Carolina enters the weekend 8-3 riding a three-match winning streak. In their last outing, the Gamecocks blanked Coastal Carolina 4-0 in Columbia. USC boasts two nationally-ranked singles players in No. 45 Hadley Berg and No. 124 Ingrid Martins. On the doubles side, the Gamecocks are represented by the 40th-ranked pair of Megan Davies and Silvia Chinellato.
