Track and Field Opens SEC Indoor Championships on Saturday

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State's track and field teams begin the indoor postseason this weekend at the SEC Indoor Championships in College Station.
For the first time, the Championships will be televised live on the SEC Network for Sunday's competition, beginning at 5 p.m. CT. Saturday's action is available via live streaming on the SEC Network+, beginning at 2:55 p.m. CT.
"This is what we look forward to and work for all season," MSU coach Steve Dudley said. "We have confidence and expectations that the individuals we bring into this meet will score for us and advance to the NCAA Championships."
Competition will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday with the final event of the day starting at 7:10 p.m. The first day of competition will feature complete pentathlon and heptathlon action as well as the finals for men's weight throw and high jump and women's pole vault and shot put.
Men's and women's long jump will immediately go to finals on Saturday. Both the men's and women's 3000m will award medals to close the evening.
The heptathlon will open Sunday's competition at 2:30 p.m. All other track events will have run their prelims on Saturday and award medals on Sunday. The final event of the competition will be the women's 4x400m relay, beginning at 8:42 p.m.
Eighteen SEC teams are ranked in the latest USTFCCCA poll. A nation-leading eight men's teams are ranked while no other conference has more than four. On the women's side, a nation-best 10 teams are ranked, and no other conference has more than five.
Twenty-six current Bulldogs are inside the Top Five in indoor school history in their events, and 12 are among the Top 10 in the conference entering the weekend.
Following a week off, the Bulldogs will return to College Station for the NCAA Championships on March 9-10.
