February 16, 2018 | Track & Field
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Just 11 Mississippi State track and field athletes will be in action this weekend as the Bulldogs send three relays and triple jumper Tiffany Flynn to Notre Dame's Alex Wilson Invitational.
Flynn will open competition in a combined triple jump event that will see the men and women compete together. She begins the event at 10 a.m. CT.
MSU will have a team in both the men's and women's distance medley relay, beginning at 10:45 a.m. with the women first on the track. The men will follow at 11 a.m. The Bulldogs will then wait until 2:15 p.m. when the men's 4x400m relay concludes their trip to South Bend, Indiana.
Dejon Devroe, who is 12th in the nation in the 800m, will run the 1200m to lead off the men's distance medley. He'll be followed by Stephan James, running the 400m, then the 800m leg run by the SEC-leader Marco Arop who is fifth in the NCAA. Aaron Phelps will close out the race with the mile, the event in which he is third in MSU indoor history.
The women's distance medley will be paced by Charlotte Cayton-Smith's 1200m leg. Keturah Smith will run the 400m, before Alon Lewis attacks the 800m. Rhianwedd Price-Weimer will close the race in the mile. Last week, Smith put up a 400m time that ranks fifth in indoor school history. Price-Weimer is second in MSU's record books in the mile.
Juston Waters and Rasheed Tatham will join Arop and James for the men's 4x400m relay.
Only one other SEC team will be in attendance. Texas A&M's men are ranked No. 6, while the Aggie women are No. 7 in the latest USTFCCCA poll. The men will also meet No. 7 Florida State, No. 8 Penn State, No. 13 Texas, No. 15 Oregon, No. 18 BYU and No. 19 Stanford.
