SURPRISE, Ariz. – A strong fall continued for Mississippi State's seventh-ranked doubles pair of Niclas Braun and Giovanni Oradini on Thursday with a hard-fought Round of 16 triumph at the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships.
The fifth-seeded and seventh-ranked Bulldog duo improved to 10-3 on the year with a 6-3, 4-6, 1-0(3) victory over Georgia Gwinnett's Valentino Caratini and Ayed Zatar. Braun and Oradini mounted to a quick 6-0 lead in the third-set supertiebreaker and fended off a comeback attempt by Caratini and Zatar to coast to a 10-3 victory to punch their ticket to Friday's quarterfinals, where they will take on Oli Nolan and Henry Patten of UNC Asheville at 7 p.m. CT.
In singles Thursday, MSU's 109th-ranked Braun and teammate Trevor Foshey both saw their runs end in the prestigious event. Braun dropped a tight 6-3, 6-4 decision to No. 96 Zeke Clark of Illinois in the second round. Foshey fell 6-1, 6-4 to Iowa's Kareem Allaf in the opening round of consolation action.
Ramskogler, Strickland Set For Samford Fall Invite
STARKVILLE – A week after capturing their first singles victories as Bulldogs at the Country Club of Birmingham Invitational, newcomers Gregor Ramskogler and Stedman Strickland return to the Birmingham area for the Samford Fall Invite this weekend (Nov. 9-11) at the Pelham Racquet Club.
Ramskogler enjoyed a solid weekend in Birmingham, responding strong after dropping his first singles match to win three straight bouts en route to winning consolation in the White Draw. Strickland notched a pair of singles victories, along with the pair teaming up for a doubles victory.
