STARKVILLE – Looking ahead to her second season at the helm, Mississippi State head volleyball coach Julie Darty has announced the signing of two new Bulldogs for the 2019 season.
Â
Joining the Bulldogs is outside hitter Carsyn Starr and middle blocker Burgundy Walters.
Â
"I am thrilled to sign these two players and young women," Darty said. "Carsyn and Burgundy are both talented volleyball players, but they are also really wonderful people. They will help us continue to change the culture and the program here at Mississippi State."
Â
The remainder of this year's signing class will be released at a later date.
Â
Carsyn Starr, 6-0, outside hitter from Memphis, Tenn.
Â
"Carsyn has a fast arm and can score on either pin. Having an attacker like Carsyn will add much-needed depth to that position, and it will give us the ability to not rely so heavily on our middles for so much of our offensive production. Carsyn is a high energy volleyball player who has an intense amount of passion for the game. I think everyone will be able to feel that when they get in the gym with her. Whether you are on the court next to her or in the stands watching, you can tell that Carsyn is a competitor who wants to get after it. We are excited to welcome her to our family."
"I feel blessed have the opportunity to be a part of the Bulldog family. Starkville and the Mississippi State community feels warm and welcoming, and I am really looking forward to being a member of this team and competing in the SEC."
Starr's Accolades
Burgundy Walters, 6-0, middle blocker from Sanford, Fla.
Â
"Burgundy is a springy, athletic middle who will come in and immediately fit into our system. Burgundy's experience playing at such a high level with her club team is going to help make her transition to the collegiate game much smoother. Her IQ and athleticism will help us from day one. Burgundy is a winner, and she is ready to come in and help us really change the culture and move in the right direction. She will have some very experienced older middles to lean on during her freshman year, and I am very excited to see her come in and flourish. Burgundy is a special young lady that I have known for a long time. She is a wonderful addition to our family."
"Getting the opportunity to be a part of a high level, challenging athletic program at Mississippi State is unreal. I am beyond excited to be a part of the Family in Starkville that will help me grow on and off the court."
