STARKVILLE – Mississippi State's No. 25/18 soccer team will host Alabama on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. CT. The Bulldogs will wear pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the match will be broadcast on SEC Network+.
MSU is looking to score for the first time in three matches. State last found the net in a 2-1 overtime victory against then-No. 13/6 South Carolina.
The Bulldog defense has been solid, however, allowing just one goal per game in conference play. MSU is holding opponents to 3.5 shots on goal per game, and has been even better at home. State has allowed just one goal off a penalty kick at the MSU Soccer Field and kept opponents to just 2.3 shots on goal per game in Starkville.
State will be put to the test against Alabama, which is second in the conference in total shots and third in goals.
"Alabama is an excellent possession team that knocks the ball around as well as anyone," head coach Tom Anagnost said. "(Head coach) Wes (Hart) has done a great job turning them into an NCAA Tournament team."
The Crimson Tide made the NCAA Tournament last year for the first time since 2011.
A win would mark MSU's first 10-win season since 2001 and guarantee that State finishes the regular season above .500, which would mark the second pair of consecutive winning seasons in school history (1996-97).
Fans in attendance will receive pink poms and 200 Hail State Rewards points. The match is also Bully's Kids Club day, and Kids Club members will be able to enter a raffle for a prize pack in addition to their 150 Kids Club points.
