
Schaefer, McCowan Head To ESPN For NCAA Media Day

STARKVILLE – For the second-straight year, Mississippi State will be heading to Bristol, Connecticut, for NCAA National Media Day.Bulldog head coach Vic Schaefer and senior Teaira McCowan, the SEC Preseason Player of the Year, will spend Wednesday at ESPN talking with network talent and national media about the upcoming 2018-19 season that has seen the Bulldogs picked to win the league title by members of the media.
Schaefer is one of three coaches attending the event, while McCowan joins six other top talent.

Entering his seventh season at the MSU helm, Schaefer is coming off guiding the Bulldogs to a school-record and nation's-best 37 wins, the program's first SEC regular-season title and a second-straight trip to the Final Four's national championship game.
McCowan is the Bulldogs' lone returning starter and is coming off a junior campaign that saw her earn All-American honors from the WBCA, ESPNW and the Associated Press, as well as the inaugural Naismith Defensive Player of the Year.
The Brenham, Texas, native, who was tabbed to the watch list for the Lisa Leslie Award, was also named First Team All-SEC and the league's Co-Defensive Player of the Year last season after starting all 39 games and averaging 18.2 ppg and a nation's second-most 13.9 rpg.
McCowan grabbed an SEC-record 544 rebounds in 2017-18, the second-most by a NCAA Division I player in a season, and she ranked second in the NCAA with a league-record 29 double-doubles that tied for 10th-most in Division I annals.
She enters her final season with 1,015-career rebounds, a total that leads active SEC players and ranks third among current NCAA Division I players. McCowan also tops MSU in career field goal percentage (57 percent) and double-doubles (39).
After guiding MSU to a repeat appearance in the national championship game, McCowan earned the Kansas City Regional Co-Most Outstanding Player and was named to the NCAA All-Final Four Team. The only player in NCAA Tournament history to record multiple 20-point, 20-rebound games, she averaged 20.8 ppg and set tournament records with 109 rebounds and 18.2 rpg in guiding the Dawgs to Columbus, Ohio.
Schaefer, McCowan and the Bulldogs host Central Missouri in a Friday evening exhibition at Humphrey Coliseum. Tip is set for 6 p.m.
