MSU’s Braun, Lizariturry Capture Consolation Singles Titles At Roberta Alison

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Mississippi State's women's tennis quartet capped its final day at the 31st annual, 21-program Roberta Alison Invitational Saturday, highlighted by singles consolation crowns posted by two Bulldogs in their respective draws.
In the final fall tournament of her career, MSU senior Janina Braun brought home the Susan Carver Draw consolation title after ousting Clemson's top-seeded Tate Schroeder in a 7-6(4), 6-1 affair.
In the Amy Mascotti Draw, junior veteran Sara Lizariturry also brought home a consolation crown with a gritty comeback effort - 5-7, 6-3, 1-0(2) - downing fourth-seeded Tereza Jantova of rival Ole Miss.
In MSU's other singles action Saturday, true freshman and fourth-seeded Tamara Racine fell 6-2, 6-2 to Kentucky's fourth-seeded Ana Tkachenko in the Bianca Svensson Draw's third-place contest. Plagued by illness throughout the weekend, sophomore Meredith Roberts defaulted to DePaul's Marija Jovici in the Paulina Bigos Draw's seventh-place match.
MSU competed in two rounds of doubles action to open the day in the Yellowhammer State, with one Bulldog pair taking home a third-place finish.
To open the final day of tandem play, MSU's Braun and Racine were bested by Tulane's Ivone Alvarro and Laura Fabrizi 6-2 in the Nancy Harris Draw semifinals. The pair went on to a quick 6-1 third-place match triumph over South Alabama's Yu Fujioka and Milka Pasanen.
State's duo of Lizariturry and Roberts was ousted by Ole Miss' fourth-seeded Ana Vrbenska and Allie Sanford 6-3 in the Antonia Foehse Draw's consolation semifinals to begin the day. In the seventh-place match, the third-seeded Clemson tandem of Ally Miller-Krasilnikov and Sydney Riley defaulted to the State pair.

Following a two-week stint in Starkville, the Bulldogs will head west for their final stop on the fall tournament tour. MSU will conclude its fall slate at the Arizona State Invite (Nov. 9-11) in Tempe, Arizona.
