MSU’s Women’s Tennis Travels East For Roberta Alison Invitational

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Following two weeks in Bulldog country, a quartet of Mississippi State women's tennis players are set to travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., for the 31st annual Roberta Alison Invitational (Oct. 26-27). Alabama will host the two-day event, featuring competition from over 20 programs, at the Alabama Tennis Stadium and Roberta Alison Baumgardner Tennis Facility
Doubles action will commence on Friday at 9 a.m. with singles directly following.
State's twosome of junior Sara Lizariturry and sophomore Meredith Roberts will represent the Maroon & White in the Yellowhammer State. The pair holds a 1-1 ledger so far on the fall slate. Lizariturry and Roberts will meet Clemson's top-seeded and 16th-ranked Marie-Alexandre Leduc and Fernanda Navarro in the Antonia Foehse Draw.
Senior Janina Braun and freshman Tamara Racine will also pair in doubles action, as the duo takes the court together for the first time ever. The tandem is set to open against second-seeded Ashleigh Harvey and Meredith Jones of Air Force in the Nancy Harris Draw on Friday.
Singles action will begin directly following doubles play.
The veteran Lizariturry will open her singles stretch against third-seeded and 113th-ranked Yu FuJioka of South Alabama in the Amy Mascotti Draw. Lizariturry holds a team-leading 7-1 record this fall, as she has captured singles flight crowns at both the Debbie Southern Fall Classic and the SMU Invite.
MSU's senior Braun enters the weekend 4-3 in singles, as she prepares to face Clemson's Sydney Riley in the Susan Carver Draw. In last year's competition, Braun persevered to pick up the consolation singles title in her draw.
Racine will hold the third-seeded slot in the Bianca Svensson Draw, as she will face Indiana's Olga Zavarotnaya. The true freshman maintains a 4-3 overall singles notch so far in her first semester as a Bulldog.
The Jackson, Miss., native Roberts is set to meet Memphis' Aleksandra Topalovic in the Paulina Bigos Draw. The transfer from TCU holds a 4-4 mark through three fall tournaments.
Live streaming will be provided on main courts 1-6 through doubles and singles competition on Friday and Saturday.
