Men’s Tennis Set For USTA Birmingham Futures; Borges To Play In Charlottesville Challenger

STARKVILLE – After an incredible week of success that saw MSU capture both the singles and doubles titles at the 2018 ITA Southern Regional Championships, four members of the Mississippi State men's tennis team are set to open up play in singles qualifying at the Players Choice Open—a USTA Futures tournament—in Birmingham, Alabama, on Friday.

Sophomore Florian Broska, seniors Trevor Foshey and Strahinja Rakic, and freshman Gregor Ramskogler are set to play in the 128-player qualifying singles draw that opens Friday at the Highland Park Tennis Center. The main draw, should any Bulldogs advance, will be Oct. 29-Nov. 4.

Several players from Southeastern Conference programs will also be in the qualifying draw, including players from Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Ole Miss and Tennessee.

Foshey opens up play for the Maroon and White at 10 a.m. CT against Andrew Garman. Broska is set to face Samford's Aleksandar Petrovic, while Ramskogler takes on Juan Ignacio Batalla Diez. Rounding out the Bulldogs in Birmingham is Rakic, who is slated to face Wichita State standout Murkel Dellien.

State's Borges To Play In Charlottesville Challenger

While those Bulldogs are in Birmingham, senior Nuno Borges is preparing for his second ATP Challenger tournament of the year, as he will take the court in Charlottesville, Virginia, in singles qualifying beginning Saturday.

Most recently, the two-time All-American Borges finished in the quarterfinals of the USTA Futures tournament in Harlingen, Texas. The event in Virginia marks Borges' third pro tournament of the fall, as he opened up the season in singles qualifying at the ATP Columbus (Ohio) Challenger.

Matchups for qualifying in Charlottesville will be announced late Friday, and all matches will take place indoors at The Boar's Head Sports Club in Charlottesville.
