Cross Country Opens Postseason At 2018 SEC Championships

STARKVILLE – Championship season is upon the Mississippi State cross country team, as the Bulldogs head to the 2018 Southeastern Conference Championships looking to secure their fifth-straight top-five finish at the event.
The league meet, hosted by Auburn University, will be held at the Indian Pines Golf Course. The women's 6K, featuring the Bulldogs, begins the day at 9 a.m. CT. Admission to the meet is free. Highlights of the championship will be televised at Noon CT on Nov. 4 on SEC Network.
"We are excited about SECs," head coach Houston Franks said. "This is where we really need to improve on our last two meets, which haven't quite been up to our standard. Top to bottom, the SEC is one of the top conferences in the country. This meet is always a battle that will take a lot of toughness, but we are ready."
In the preseason coaches' poll, the Bulldogs were predicted to finish fourth in the conference. Last season, Shannon Fair paced State to its fifth-place result, earning a ninth-place finish to be tabbed Second Team All-SEC.
All 14 member schools will field a women's team with Arkansas, Georgia and in-state rival Ole Miss being the only ranked teams. Florida also received votes in this week's USTFCCCA coaches poll.

Last Time Out For The Bulldogs …
On Oct. 13, MSU finished 14th in the women's 6K at the Arturo Barrios Invitational at Texas A&M. Stephanie Peterson led all Bulldogs with a 25th-place finish. On the men's side, the Maroon and White finished 17th, led by a 27th-place finish by Stephen Jones.
Next Up For MSU …
After returning from Auburn, the Bulldogs set their sights on the 2018 NCAA South Regional Championships. In 2017, State finished seventh in the regional championship in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, while Fair earned All-Region honors with an 11th-place finish.
