MSU Travels North to Face Rebels on Sunday

OXFORD, Miss. -In search if its first SEC road win of the season, Mississippi State (5-16, 1-7 SEC) travels north to face in-state rival Ole Miss (11-11, 1-7 SEC) on Sunday (Oct. 21) at Gillom Athletics Sports Center.

The match will air on the SEC Network+ at 1:30 p.m., with Seth Austin on play-by-play and Brittany McLaughlin as the analyst. Fans can also access the match via the WatchESPN app.

"This is a fun rivalry game, and I am excited to be apart of it for the first time," head coach Julie Darty said. "We have had several intense practices since getting back from Tuscaloosa and are putting in the work to get better. I am really excited for us to get on the floor and compete, and I want to see our response after a tough Wednesday night loss. This match is obviously one that has been circled on the schedule for us, and it means a lot. I hope we can use our passion and emotions to fuel our fire and play hard for a consistent span of time. I love this group and I love how hard we are capable of going. I want us to find a way to consistently be that team for a longer span of time. We are excited to get to Oxford and play some good volleyball."

MSU heads to Oxford for a showdown against in-state rivals the Ole Miss Rebels. When playing in Oxford, Mississippi State trails 33-8. For the all-time series, Ole Miss leads 71-26.
Outside hitter Emily Stroup tops the stat sheets with 384 kills, 20 service aces, and is second with 242 digs. Setter Jordan Fate has 471 assists this season where she averages 6.20 assists per set. Defensive specialist Caroline Adams has 310 digs this season with 3.69 digs per set

Junior Amarrah Cooks is on top of the stat sheets, leading the team with kills (174), hitting percentage (.273), solo blocks (23), total blocks (60.0) and points (216.5). She is second on the team with block assists (37).
Kath Has Three Double-Doubles in 2018 ...Â
Senior Morgan Kath tallied 10 digs and 11 assists against Georgia State on Aug. 26 at the StarkVegas Classic. The Wisconsin native also had 10 digs and 54 assists against Clemson on Aug. 31 at the Appalachian Invitational. On Sept. 7-8 in Mobile at the Jaguar Invitational against Louisiana Tech, the senior registered 14 digs and 28 assists.

Darty Picks Up Her First SEC Win ...
On Wednesday, Sep. 26, Julie Darty earned her first SEC win after defeating Auburn, 3-2, in Newell-Grissom on ESPNU. Darty's squad rallied from being two sets down to fight back and win the match, 21-25, 12-25, 25-22, 25-23, 15-13.
Robinson, Shaw Earn SEC Freshman POW for the First Time Since 2013 …Â
Deja Robinson was named the SEC Freshman Player of the Week on Sept. 4 following an impressive performance at the Appalachian State Invitational where she had 4.08 points and 3.23 kills per set as well as a .443 hitting percentage. She was also named to the Appalachian State All-Tournament Team and posted a career-high 20 kills against Davidson.
Paige Shaw was named the Co-SEC Freshman Player of the Week on Oct. 1 after her unstoppable performance against Auburn on Sept. 26. The freshman tallied 18 kills, and her first service ace against the Tigers. Shaw also notched her first-career service ace and registered career highs in attack attempts (55), solo blocks (2), total blocks (4.0) and points (22.0). The match winning point came from a kill by Shaw.
The last time Mississippi State garnered two SEC Freshman of the Week awards was in 2013, when Kimmy Gardiner won it twice. Robinson and Shaw mark the first pair of MSU student-athletes to claim SEC Freshman of the Week in the same season.
Deja Robinson Finds Herself on the Freshman Block Solos List …Â
Deja Robinson currently has 17 solo blocks in her career. She ties teammate Liv Benner's total from 2017 for the No. 8 spot on the rookie ledger. She is one away from the No. 5 spot and tying teammate Laura Rose Gray(2017), along with Sharyn Smith (1985) and Shauna Owens (1988), all with 18 solo blocks during their respective seasons.

Four players on the 2018 roster hail from the state of Indiana (Gabby Zgunda, Kendall Murr, Kanani Price and Liv Benner). The Hoosier State is the most represented state on the squad.

After Sunday's (Oct. 21) match against Ole Miss, Mississippi State turns its attention to Arkansas for a rematch. Earlier in the season, the Razorbacks won 3-1 in Fayetteville. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. on the SEC Network in Newell-Grissom Building.
