OXFORD, Miss. – Mississippi State's soccer team will play for the Magnolia Cup against Ole Miss on Sunday in a nationally-televised match. The No. 25/25 Bulldogs and the Rebels will kick off their 24th meeting at 4 p.m. CT on ESPNU.
State has not won in Oxford since 2001 when MSU claimed a 2-1 victory in overtime.
"Ole miss is a very good team," head coach Tom Anagnost said. "They are dangerous and can score goals. We must be ready to go from the start."
The Bulldogs are currently in 10th place in the SEC standings with two games to play. The top 10 teams in the league will qualify for the conference tournament in Orange Beach, Alabama. State can clinch a spot in the tournament with a win over the Rebels if Missouri loses and Alabama loses or ties on Sunday.
MSU has played the strongest SEC schedule according to the NCAA's RPI rankings, with an average opponent RPI of 30.6.
Several Bulldogs are climbing the MSU record books. Seniors Carly Mauldin and Courtney Robicheaux are both 28 minutes away from moving up the career minutes leaderboard. Mauldin would be sixth and Robicheaux 10th.
Redshirt senior Rhylee DeCrane's 0.71 goals against average would be a single-season record, and with a win she would become just the second keeper to win 10 games in a year.
Ole Miss is led by senior CeCe Kizer, who is second in the nation among active players with 47 career goals. The Rebels high-powered offense is third in the SEC in points (107) and second in goals (38).
