STARKVILLE – Mississippi State is on the bubble. The No. 25/25 Bulldogs are currently in a tie for 10th in the SEC standings, but would not make the conference tournament thanks to the tie-breaking procedure.
MSU will look to pave its path to Orange Beach, Alabama, with a win over Arkansas on Thursday night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT with the match airing on SEC Network+.
The Razorbacks, who are receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches' poll, currently sit in fourth in the league, and a win would get the Bulldogs to double-digits in points.
"(Arkansas head coach) Colby (Hale) has done a spectacular job there," head coach Tom Anagnost said. "Arkansas is a physical, tough and great team. We need to step up our game against them."
The Bulldogs are looking to beat the Razorbacks for the first time since 2015, which was also the last time State won three conference matches. In Starkville, the Razorbacks lead the series 9-2.
Arkansas leads the league in corner kicks (113) and is third in shots (269). They are coming off a 4-0 victory over Kentucky last week.
Despite leading the SEC with 13 freshmen, MSU's youth has proven to be an asset this season. Freshmen have earned 36 of the Bulldogs' 90 points this season (40 percent). Six different newcomers have tallied a point this year.
State will travel to Oxford, Mississippi on Sunday, Oct. 21 to face Ole Miss in a nationally-televised match on ESPNU. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
