STARKVILLE, Miss. – After two weeks of nationwide action, the Mississippi State women's tennis squad reunites this weekend (Oct. 12-15) for the ITA Southern Regional Championships at Ole Miss. The home-standing Rebels will host the four-day competition, which will feature individuals from over 10 different programs from around the region, including SEC foes Alabama, Auburn and LSU.
Singles finalists and the doubles champion of the ITA Southern Regionals advance to the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships in Surprise, Ariz., Nov. 7-11.
Play begins Friday morning at 8 a.m. CT with the first round of doubles followed by singles competition at Ole Miss' Parker/Salloum Tennis Center, Indoor Tennis Center and Oxford's FNC Tennis Center-John Leslie Courts.
Junior Sara Lizariturry currently leads the Bulldogs with a pristine 6-0 singles record this fall. The veteran Bulldog is fresh off two singles titles at the Debbie Southern Fall Classic (Sept. 21-23) and the SMU Invite (Oct. 5-7).
Lizariturry will partner with rookie Tamara Racine in doubles action in Oxford. Racine enters the weekend 4-2 in singles, with her own three-match win streak in the books. Racine was also named her singles draw's co-champion, beside Lizariturry, last weekend in Dallas.
Senior captain Anastasia Rentouli, ranked 125th nationally, will take the court with a 4-2 singles mark so far on her final fall campaign at MSU. The 2018 All-SEC star will also partner with senior Janina Braun in doubles this weekend.
Braun leads the Maroon & White with a 4-2 overall doubles mark this fall. She earned the first doubles title of her MSU career last weekend at SMU, going unbeaten with Lizariturry.
Sophomore Magda Adaloglou and true freshman Emma Antonaki will round out the doubles tandems for the Bulldogs this weekend. The young twosome holds a 4-1 ledger so far in fall play, captured their first title at the Debbie Southern Fall Classic in September, and went 1-1 in qualifying action at the ITA All-American Championships earlier this month.
Adaloglou holds a 4-4 record in singles, after winning three straight to advance to qualifying competition at the ITA All-American two weeks ago. Antonaki also holds an even mark on the fall at 3-3.
Sophomore transfer Meredith Roberts will round out the State lineup for the weekend, coming into action with a 3-3 singles ledger on the year.
