State’s Broska Advances In Qualifying At ITA All-American

TULSA, Okla. – Florian Broska got off to a solid start in singles action for the Mississippi State men's tennis team on Monday, picking up a victory to open his play at the 2018 ITA All-American Championships.
The sophomore Broska notched a 6-4, 6-3 triumph over TCU's Sander Jong in the first round of singles qualifying.
The Eitelborn, Germany, native will now face fellow SEC All-Freshman Team selection Duarte Vale, ranked 57th nationally, of Florida on Tuesday in the second round. The fifth-seeded Vale advanced by taking a three-set decision from Constant De La Bassetiere of Penn State.
In nearby Broken Arrow at the Union 9th Grade Center, MSU's 109th-ranked Niclas Braun dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision to Texas A&M's No. 84 Juan Carlos Aguilar. Braun is now set to face Ryan Goetz of Virginia in the consolation draw at 8 a.m. Tuesday at Union.
In doubles Monday, Broska and Trevor Foshey teamed up against the Texas A&M duo Noah Schacter and Barnaby Smith. The Aggie tandem came out victorious, however, taking a tight 6-4, 6-4 decision.
The final two rounds of singles qualifying, and consolation matches, will be played Tuesday before an off day on Wednesday prior to the singles and doubles main draws starting Thursday. MSU All-Americans Nuno Borges, Giovanni Oradini and Strahinja Rakic are automatic entries into the main draw.
