MSU Women’s Tennis Hosts Arkansas State In Monday DH To Open 2018 Season
January 21, 2018 | Women's Tennis
STARKVILLE, Miss. – To begin the 2018 dual match season, the Mississippi State women's tennis team will welcome Arkansas State Monday for a twinbill at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre, with matches slated for 1 and 3 p.m. CT.
"We are all very excited to play out first dual matches of the year," head coach Daryl Greenan said. "The girls did a great job in the off season. They have been focused at practice and committed in their preparation for opening day tomorrow."
State returns five veteran players from last season's team. Seniors Madison Harrison and Khrystyna Vozniak look to lead the team after going 4-1 in doubles last weekend at the Indiana Winter Invite. Juniors Caroline Kelly and Anastasia Rentouli along with sophomore Sara Lizariturry are back after contributing to MSU's very successful season last year.
Two new Bulldogs will make their dual match debut this weekend for MSU. Junior Janina Braun and freshman Magda Adaloglou combined for a 15-10 singles record during the fall slate.
In 2017, MSU reached the NCAA Team Championship for the third consecutive season and finished ranked 20th nationally, tying a program best. Under Greenan, the Bulldogs went 15-9 for the year, MSU's fifth-best overall team winning percentage ever. State also finished 7-6 in the powerful Southeastern Conference (the seven wins tie the program best) and reached the quarterfinals of the SEC Championship for the third year in a row.
Arkansas State comes into the weekend at 0-2, after dropping both its opening matches on Friday against No. 25 TCU and Southern Miss in Dallas.

State travels to Berkley, Calif., for the 2018 ITA Kick-Off Weekend. The Bulldogs will face No. 12 Texas on Friday, January 26, at 3 p.m. CT. On Saturday, MSU will face either No. 11 host California or UNLV on Saturday.
