STARKVILLE, Miss. – The 2017-18 Mississippi State Men's Golf season tees off on Monday as the Bulldogs travel to Cincinnati, Ohio, to play in the Bearcat Intercollegiate at Coldstream Country Club.
The two-day tournament is the first competition for MSU's first-year head coach Dusty Smith after the Bulldogs' opener in South Carolina was cancelled due to Hurricane Irma.
"We are excited to get started this week in Cincinnati," Smith said. "Our team has prepared well over the past few weeks, and I am looking forward to watching the guys compete.
"I am thrilled for the opportunity to make my head coaching debut for Mississippi State, but this isn't about me. This is about our team and the men who have earned the right to represent our program this week."
Smith's first lineup includes six student-athletes, including returners Taylor Grant, Austin Rose, Peng Pichaikool and Garrett Johnson. Cameron Clarke, a freshman, and Griffin Agent, a redshirt freshman, will make their collegiate debuts and complete MSU's team.
In the 2016 edition of the Bearcat Intercollegiate, Garrett Johnson finished tied for seventh and paced MSU to finish tied for fifth.
The Bulldogs tee off the opening two rounds at 7:40 a.m. CT Monday. The tournament closes Tuesday with 18 holes.
Mississippi State is one of 12 teams participating, and the field includes SEC opponents Arkansas and Kentucky along with Akron, College of Charleston, Illinois, Louisville, Michigan State, Middle Tennessee, Ohio State, Xavier and host Cincinnati.
