Harrison In ITA Preseason Singles Rankings For Bulldogs

STARKVILLE, Miss. - With the fall slate fast approaching for Mississippi State women's tennis, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced its preseason rankings Tuesday, with veteran Madison Harrison earning a spot in the singles rankings.

A senior, Harrison came in at 109th in the Tuesday's initial rankings. Despite battling injuries throughout last season, Harrison still composed a solid 11-12 overall record, 8-10 in dual matches. The Bradenton, Florida, product is 35-22 overall for her career, 23-18 in dual match play.

Tuesday marks Harrison's eighth appearance in the ITA singles rankings over her career at MSU. She will be a key leader this season as one of only two seniors, along with Khrystyna Vozniak. In 2016, the two paired together to advance to the NCAA Doubles Round of 16, the first duo since 1989 NCAA Doubles Champions Claire Pollard and Jackie Holden to do so.

As a team, MSU Women's Tennis turned in one of the best seasons in program history in 2017, capturing the program's highest-ever ranking of No. 16 on April 4, before tying the program's best ITA finish at No. 20 to end the season. The Maroon & White finished 15-9 on the season, while earning seven wins in the always-tough Southeastern Conference. The seven SEC wins tied a program record set in 2016.

"Madison had several high-level wins at the end of last season and she helped lead our team to an incredible year," head coach Daryl Greenan said. "As one of two seniors, she will be a huge contributor next year. We have an extremely motivated and competitive team and they are all excited to play their first tournament next weekend. Our girls are all working extremely hard and they have made nice progress in their early development this fall."Â
