July 26, 2017 | Men's Tennis, Women's Tennis
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Proving yet again Mississippi State's commitment to academics, the MSU men's and women's tennis programs earned team and individual honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for the 2016-2017 season, the ITA has announced.
Both squads earned ITA All-Academic Team honors by meeting the required 3.20 cumulative grade-point average, while several Bulldog players scored the required 3.50 GPA for the 2016-2017 academic year to earn individual honors from the ITA.
The Matt Roberts-led men's squad posted an impressive 3.26 cumulative GPA for the 2016-2017 academic year, as the program earned its ninth-straight and 16th overall ITA All-Academic Team honor in school history. On the court, the Bulldogs finished ranked 18th nationally after a run to the SEC Championship finals this spring and the program's 26th NCAA appearance.
Daryl Greenan's women's team recorded a remarkable 3.53 team GPA in 2016-2017 (the highest among all MSU sports), on its way to earning the ITA team laurel for the eighth-consecutive season and 18th time overall. State's ladies tied the program record with a No. 20 final national ranking this spring while making a third-straight NCAA appearance.
Individually, both teams had multiple players named ITA Scholar-Athletes.
For State's men, Simon Baudry (undeclared – pre-engineering), Nuno Borges (kinesiology), Trevor Foshey (kinesiology), Giovanni Oradini (kinesiology) and Strahinja Rakic (undeclared) each earned the individual honor with GPAs of 3.5 or better for the year.
For the women's squad, Madison Harrison (kinesiology), Caroline Kelly (kinesiology) Jasmine Lee (interdisciplinary studies) and Anastasia Rentouli (finance) rounded out MSU's ITA Scholar-Athlete list.
