SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Playing their second game in Salt Lake City this week, the Mississippi State Bulldogs (36-22) closed out their season with a 9-3 loss to the Fordham Rams (46-16) in an NCAA Tournament elimination game.
Leading the way for State offensively was Emily Heimberger and Reggie Harrison, who both put up three-hit performances. Heimberger went 3-for-3 with a triple, while Harrison had a 3-for-4 showing with two doubles and a run batted in. Kat Moore and Olivia Golden each tallied two hits and a run scored, with one of Golden's hits being a double. Three other Bulldogs tallied a hit on the day (Bevia Robinson, Caroline Seitz and Amanda Ivy).
State opened the scoring thanks to an RBI double from Harrison, scoring Kat Moore to give State a 1-0 lead in the first. State held onto that lead until the third, when Fordham used four hits to score four runs and take a 4-1 lead. The Rams would duplicate that performance in the next inning, pushing their lead to 8-1.
Fordham tacked on one more run in the sixth with an RBI single, pushing its lead to 9-1. The Dogs would try to rally in the home half, starting with a single from Ivy that would score Golden. Two batters later, a Moore single would load the bases, with a throwing error on the left fielder scoring Ivy from third, cutting the lead to 9-3. However, MSU's rally would fall short, with Fordham closing out the game with four-straight outs.
Alexis Silkwood earned the start for the Dogs, going 2.0 innings and striking out three. Cassady Knudsen threw 1.2 innings in relief, striking out a pair of Fordham batters. Holly Ward closed out the game for State, putting in 3.1 innings of work and fanning three.
Silkwood closes out her star-studded four-year career with the Maroon and White as the school's all-time leader in wins (59), strikeouts (555), complete games (50), innings pitched (665.0) and appearances (145). The East Alton, Ill., native reeled in NFCA All-South Region Second Team honors on Thursday for her impressive 2017 campaign.
Also finishing out her Bulldog career was Seitz, who finished top 10 in numerous categories. Seitz finished second in home runs (37), third in doubles (53), fourth in RBI (166) and eighth in hits (230). Seitz was named All-SEC First Team last week, the first Bulldog in seven years, while joining Silkwood on the NFCA All-South Region Second Team.
The final three members of MSU's senior class include All-SEC Defensive star Ivy, Golden and Katie Anne Bailey.

Sophomore infielder Emily Heimberger ended her 2017 campaign on a major hot streak, going 7-for-11 with a triple. She recorded the second three-hit game of her career on Friday and finished the season with six multi-hit games.
Harrison's Two Doubles Push Her Into Season Top 10…
With her two doubles against the Rams, Reggie Harrison finished the 2017 season with 15 on the year. That puts her in a tie for ninth for most doubles in a season in MSU history.
