Bulldogs Excel In Summer Softball Leagues

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State's Leila Ammon, Gretta Grassel, Kalani Sells and Ally Supan put together impressive seasons with their summer teams over the past two months. Ammon, Supan and Sells earned league honors while all four played key roles in their teams' success.
Playing in Chattanooga's Scenic City Collegiate League, Supan was the model of consistency for the Smokies. Over the course of a 24-game stretch, the 2026 SCCL Player of the Year recorded a hit in 21 games and scored in all but one, totaling a league-leading 46 hits and 11 doubles. She tallied 14 multi-hit games and put together a 12-game hitting streak. Her .597 average and .652 on-base percentage both ranked second in the league.
Power was no issue, as she finished with nine home runs, including a three-game streak of long balls. Once on base, her aggressiveness yielded 23 stolen bases. In the league championship game, Supan was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate. She drove in four runs, scored three times and launched two home runs to help secure the championship victory for the Smokies.
Sells was tabbed the Lone Star Collegiate League's Impact Player of the Year after posting a 1.286 OPS for the Ninebands with 11 doubles, two triples and two homers. She hit .455, scoring 18 runs while driving in 16 and stealing 13 bases. She helped the club top the regular-season standings with 17-5 record before falling in the league championship game.
Ammon and Grassel were teammates on the Madison Night Mares in the Northwoods League. Grassel helped that team win the league championship last year, and despite the duo only playing half of the season this year, Madison has once again clinched first place in the regular season standings with a 36-6 record and only three games remaining.
Ammon was named an All-Star midway through the year following a dominant campaign where she posted a 4-0 record with a then-league-leading 2.12 ERA. State's rising junior racked up 32 strikeouts over 29.2 innings, and she walked just eight. Her most-impressive outing was a complete-game, three-hit effort against the Wausau Ignite where she allowed only one run. She also put together three separate outings of 3.0 or more innings while allowing one hit or less, including a hitless three frames against the Minot Honeybees.
Grassel delivered an efficient offensive showcase for Madison. In just 17 games, she posted a .316 batting average with an .865 OPS. Grassel tallied 18 hits, including five doubles and a home run, while driving in 18 runs and scoring 17 times herself. She also swiped six bases. Her best night came against the Mankato Habaneros when she went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and four RBIs.
The Bulldogs will return to campus in two weeks with classes starting in Starkville on Aug. 19.
