May 12, 2017 | Track & Field
COLUMBIA, SC. – In the final event of his collegiate career, senior JaQuarius Wilson put forth one of the best decathlon performances in school history and captured eighth place to secure another team point for MSU.
In total, Wilson recorded four personal bests over the two-day, 10-event competition. He saved his best performance for last, finishing second in the 1500m run with a time of 4:35.23.
"I am so proud of the way JaQuarius finished his MSU career today," MSU coach Steve Dudley said. "We knew he was capable of scoring at this meet, and he did everything he could to make sure he did that. He put forth one of the best decathlon performances in Mississippi State history this week, and set four personal bests while he was at it."
The Price sisters, Rhianwedd and Ffion, ensured that they would have a busy Saturday schedule by qualifying for the final round of the 1500m. Rhianwedd, the 2015 NCAA Champion in the 1500m, captured a victory in the preliminary round with a time of 4:21.17. Ffion ran 4:22.90 for an eighth place finish. The two also qualified for Saturday's 800m final on Thursday. The 1500m is scheduled for 2:45 p.m. CT, with the 800m following at 4:05 p.m.
"Rhianwedd and Ffion showed a lot of mental toughness today," MSU coach Steve Dudley said. "For them to come out here a day after qualifying in the 800m, and then to each qualify again in the 1500m is really special. We always expect big things out of them, and we look forward to seeing what they are able to do tomorrow."
