MSU's Anastasia Rentouli claims SEC Community Service Team honors.
Rentouli Named To SEC Community Service Team

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Highlighting her volunteer efforts over the past season at Mississippi State, sophomore and women's tennis standout Anastasia Rentouli has been named to the 2017 Southeastern Conference Community Service Team, the league office announced on Tuesday.
All SEC-sponsored sports have had a Community Service Team since 2004, with at-large teams for men's and women's sports being chosen from 1999-2003. MSU's Jennifer Brown earned the distinction for the Bulldogs last season.
"I am very happy to receive this honor," Rentouli said of her selection. "It's has been a joy of mine to give back to the community that has become my family here at MSU. I've made it a goal to volunteer as much as I can and make our university, our city and our state the best it can be."
Rentouli was one of 12 members on the SEC Community Service Team for women's tennis, with Auburn and Ole Miss not submitting any members for the 2017 season.
A native of Athens, Greece, Rentouli has made a huge impact on the MSU campus and Starkville community since joining the Bulldogs in the fall of 2015. The sophomore has attended numerous meetings for MSU's M-Club, while also holding an officer position as a SAAC representative.
"Anastasia is very deserving of this award," head coach Daryl Greenan said. "She's given a lot of her own time back to the community and the athletic department. These kind of things are natural for Ana, because she has an outgoing, friendly personality. I'm proud of her winning this honor because she represents our team and university so well."
In the Starkville community, Rentouli provided friendship for local nursing home residents by playing bingo, while also raising money for families in need as a part of the Salvation Army Kettle Campaign. The sophomore has also donated her time at local schools as well by participating in the "Read Across America" and "National Girls and Women In Sports Day" initiatives.
In addition to her volunteer work, this spring Rentouli won MSU's Newsom Award (given to the top student for each team on campus) after her hard work in the classroom. On the court, Rentouli has clinched five matches for the Bulldogs this season while earning a 12-10 record in singles overall. The sophomore opened the fall season ranked 75th in the country for singles play.
