GAINESVILLE, Fla. – At the toughest test to date of the 2017 outdoor season, Mia Meydrich and Nicolas Quijera got the Bulldogs weekend started strong with two victories.
Meydrich moved up the Mississippi State record books, posting a time of 16:30.25 in the 5000m run which places her in third all-time. Her teammate Shannon Fair grabbed a second place finish with a time of 16:37.43 to move into fifth in Bulldog history.
In the javelin, MSU's dynamic duo of Nicolas Quijera and Curtis Thompson once again proved lethal with another 1-2 finish. The pair each threw season-best marks, with Quijera finishing just .12m ahead of his teammate for the victory.
In the men's 5000m, freshman Stephen Jones took 4th with a time of 14:27.18. Stephan James grabbed a third-place finish in the 400m run at 46.07 and in the 200m Charles Taylor took 11th with a time of 21.16.
"This was a good start to what we hope is going to be a very good weekend," MSU coach Steve Dudley said. "Our javelin group continues to show out week after week and continues to get better. Mia is continuing right where she left off during the indoor season, and we are excited to see her continue to progress. Overall, I am really pleased with how we performed today and look forward to what we can accomplish tomorrow and Saturday."
