February 18, 2017 | Women's Tennis
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Continuing its four-match homestand, the 24th-ranked Mississippi State women's tennis team (3-1) host the South Alabama Jaguars (8-1) and the Alcorn State Lady Braves (1-5) on Sunday in double-header action. The matches are slated for 11 a.m. CT and 3 p.m. CT, respectively, at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.
The Bulldogs are coming off of a successful shutout last weekend, after MSU blanked UL-Lafeyette 7-0.
Freshmen Sara Lizariturry and Lisa Marie Rioux look to keep their early-season dual match singles records spotless on Sunday, with each sporting undefeated records (2-0 and 3-0, respectively).
The rookie Rioux teams up with senior Jasmine Lee to compose the nation's eighth-ranked doubles tandem. The duo has posted a 3-1 dual match record and are 11-2 overall.
On the singles side, State's No. 44 Lee leads the team at the No. 1 position with a 3-1 record. Juniors Madison Harrison and Jennifer Brown both posted their first dual match wins of the season last Saturday against Louisiana. Sophomore Anastasia Rentouli rounds out the Bulldog lineup with a 2-1 dual match mark.
Sunday's match will kick off a three-match road trip for the South Alabama Jaguars. Since falling to No. 22 Texas A&M at the ITA Kick Off Weekend, the Jaguars have won seven straight, with four shutouts. USA is led by Alexandria Stiteler at the No. 1 position with a 6-1 dual match record.
For Alcorn State, this will be the Lady Braves fourth match in as many days. The Lady Braves picked up their first win on Friday defeating Northeastern Oklahoma State 4-3 to snap a five-match losing streak. Alcorn State will face Central Arkansas late Saturday before coming to Starkville.
