MSU Women’s Tennis Announces 2018 Spring Schedule
November 21, 2017 | Women's Tennis
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Another challenging spring season awaits the Mississippi State women's tennis team in 2018.
The Maroon & White posted a 15-9 record in 2017 with the Bulldogs achieving the program's highest national ranking ever on April 4, coming in at No. 16. State also finished the season No. 20, tying for the team's best-ever final ranking.
With the new season fast-approaching, the Bulldogs look to improve with a challenging non-conference slate before action in the ever-tough Southeastern Conference begins.
The 2018 campaign opens with a home doubleheader against Arkansas State on Jan. 22. The Bulldogs then hit the road for Berkeley, Calif., for the ITA Kickoff Weekend. California will serve as the host team for MSU, Texas and UNLV. State will face Texas on Jan. 26 and then Cal or UNLV on Jan. 27. If the Bulldogs win both contests, they will qualify for the ITA National Indoor Championship, this year being held Feb. 9-12 in Madison, Wisc.
MSU then returns home for yet another doubleheader with Samford and UAB on Feb. 3. The Bulldogs then hit the road for Hammond, La., to face Southeastern Louisiana and Southern University on Feb. 9 and Feb. 11, respectively.
The Maroon & White returns home for a five-match home stand to finish out non-conference play and begin SEC action. The home stand stretches Feb. 18 through March 3 and will include matches with Georgia State, Memphis, South Carolina, Florida and Alcorn State.
State will travel to Auburn (3/8), Alabama (3/10), Missouri (3/23), Arkansas (3/25), Texas A&M (3/30) and LSU (4/1) for SEC action.
MSU will also host Vanderbilt (3/15) and Kentucky (3/17), and then finish with a three-match league home stand with Tennessee (4/5), Georgia (4/7) and rival Ole Miss (4/13). The Tennessee and Georgia contests will be part of 2018 Super Bulldog Weekend.
Postseason action will begin on Wednesday, April 18, as the Bulldogs compete in the 2018 SEC Championship in Knoxville, Tenn. The opening two rounds of the NCAA Team Championship will take place May 11-13 at various sites across the country. If the Bulldogs advance to the Round of 16, MSU will make the trip to Winston Salem, N.C., for the final rounds of the NCAA Team Championship beginning Thursday, May 17. With Wake Forest serving as host for the first time ever, the NCAA Individual Championships will follow the team competition, beginning May 23.
