BATON ROUGE, La. – Singles play got off to a good start for Mississippi State's Trevor Foshey on Friday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southern Regional Championships. The tournament is being hosted by LSU.

Foshey opened up the singles main draw with a solid 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Troy's Mustapha Belcora. His win sets up a match against South Alabama's Loic Cloes - ranked No. 125 nationally - on Saturday at 9 a.m. CT.

In the qualifying consolation draw, Bulldog Hunter Harrison dropped a hard-fought 7-6(6), 6-4 affair against Jacksonville State's Jordi Blanchar.

The freshman then took the court in doubles play for the first time as a Bulldog alongside veteran Strahinja Rakic. The pair dropped an 8-1 decision to Tim Dollman and Stefan Gonzalez of UAB.

State has a full slate of action in both singles and doubles play on tap for Saturday. In singles, Florian Broska will face LSU's Rafael Wagner, while Giovanni Oradini will square off against Brandon Laubser of Auburn. Niclas Braun is set to face South Alabama's Lucas Gonzalez, while MSU's 67th-ranked Rakic – the tournament's No. 2 seed overall - will face Zvonimir Babic of Ole Miss. All of those contests will be second round matchups with all of those MSU players receiving first-round byes on Friday.

In addition to Foshey, match times for Broska, Braun and Oradini are all set to begin at 9 a.m. at the LSU Tennis Complex. Rakic's match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.

In the doubles main draw, State's seventh-ranked and top-seeded tandem of Braun and Foshey is set to take the court at 5 p.m. against Andres Gomez and Aljaz Kaplja of Jacksonville State. At the same time, the fourth-seeded MSU duo of Broska and Oradini will team up to face another pair from JSU in Pablo Caffarena and Joaquin Vallejo.

The singles finalists and doubles champion of the ITA Southern Regionals advance to the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships in Indian Wells, Calif., Nov. 1-5.
