Harrison Earns First MSU Win In ITA Southern Regionals

BATON ROUGE, La./HARLINGEN, Texas – Hunter Harrison earned his first victory as a Mississippi State Bulldog in the 2017 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southern Regional Championships on Thursday.
The freshman from Little Rock, Ark., opened up the qualifying singles draw with a 6-2, 7-5 triumph against New Orleans' Nicholas Kramer.
Harrison then dropped a hard-fought battle against South Alabama's Olivier Gingras 6-4, 6-2. He'll have one more singles match in the Consolation B draw against Jordi Blanchar of Jacksonville State on Friday at 1 p.m. CT. The Bulldog rookie will then take the court later that day at 4 p.m. in doubles action. He will pair up with veteran Strahinja Rakic against UAB's Tim Dollman and Stefan Gonzalez.
In addition to Harrison and Rakic in doubles play, Trevor Foshey will begin his play in the singles main draw against Troy's Mustapha Belcora Friday. Rakic, Giovanni Oradini, Florian Broska and Niclas Braun all earned first-round byes in singles and will take the court on Saturday.

At the Harlingen (TX) USTA Futures Thursday, State All-American Nuno Borges dropped a very hard-fought 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 match to Australian Alexei Popyrin (ATP 786) in a second-round contest that was back-and-forth in all three sets. The setback concluded his play in the event.
